Baby Shower Invitation Ideas

Here’s some quick ideas with more to follow:

First I think it’s helpful to go to a stationary or baby store and look at their invitations for ideas of wording, themes etc. If you already have a theme picked out for your nursery then you can carry that to your invitations.

Design 1: A beautiful elegant invitation can be made by printing on transparent vellum paper and then attaching that to cardstock.

Supplies

  • Colored Cardstock 8 1/2 x 11. Each sheet will make four cards
  • Transparent “Vellum” paper. Each sheet will make four cards
  • Ribbon. Eight” for each card
  • Envelopes “A2″ or 4 3/8″ x 5 3/4″ size (or paper to make envelopes is you are ambitious)
  • Scissors or paper cutter
  • Rubber Stamp
  • Ink pad in color that compliments cardstock
  • Ruler

Instructions: Make sure to do a test of the whole invitation to make sure the colors of cardstock, ink and you printing all compliment each other and don’t obscure important information.

  • If you are making the invitation by computer set the template to divide an 8 1/2″ x 11″ page into quarters with a margin of 1/2″. Add your wording and clipart, and print out on “vellum” paper. If you are making the invitation by hand design the invitation on a plain sheet of paper about 3 3/4″ x 5″. Once you are satisfies with the invitation take it to a copy store and have them copy the original 3 times so you can paste it up so there are 4 on one sheet of paper. Have them copy that sheet with the 4 invitations onto the vellum.
  • Cut the printed vellum invitations. They should be about 3 3/4″ x 5″.
  • Quarter cardstock so you have 4 pieces 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.
  • Use rubber stamp and ink pad to put random designs on cardstock background.
  • Cut ribbon into 8″ pieces.
  • Layer the vellum on top of the cardstock. The vellum should be slightly smaller than the cardstock.
  • Punch two holes in both layers, and tie together with ribbon
  • You can also stamp the envelope to carry on the theme.

Design 2: Make the envelope fancier by lining it with pretty tissue paper.

Supplies

  • Envelopes
  • Patterned or metallic tissue paper to match your invitation theme
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Instructions

  • On a plain piece of paper trace around the envelope with the flap extended to make a cutting template. Trim off the top of the template enough so that when you cut your tissue paper it will not cover the glue on the envelope.
  • Using the template cut tissue paper.
  • Run glue stick around the outside edges of wrong side of tissue paper. Slide into envelope and press into place.

Design 3: Use a photograph for the front of the invitation on this fold over card.

Supplies

  • Colored Cardstock 8 1/2 x 11. Each sheet will make two cards
  • Envelopes “A2″ or 4 3/8″ x 5 3/4″ size (or paper to make envelopes is you are ambitious)
  • Scissors or paper cutter
  • Ruler

Instructions:

  • If you are making the invitation by computer set the template to divide an 8 1/2″ x 11″ page into half with a margin of 1/4″. Add your wording and clipart, and print out on the cardstock. If you are making the invitation by hand design the invitation on a plain sheet of paper about 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. Once you are satisfies with the invitation take it to a copy store and have them copy the original so you can paste it up so there are 2 on one sheet of paper. Have them copy that sheet with the 2 master invitations onto the cardstock.
  • Cut the cardstock in half and fold so the wording is on the inside. To make a neat fold, lay the ruler on the fold line and score with the back of a kitchen knife or stylus.
  • Glue photograph to the front of the card.
